Intoximeters acquires National Patent Analytical Systems’ breath alcohol testing business

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – Intoximeters, Inc. (St. Louis, MO) is pleased to announce the acquisition of the breath alcohol testing business of National Patent Analytical Systems, Inc. (NPAS) (Mansfield, OH).

NPAS has a long history in the field of breath alcohol testing and currently produces the “Datamaster DMT” (DMT) instrument. The DMT uses proven infrared technology to quantify alcohol concentrations in breath. It is designed for fixed site or mobile testing and is used extensively both domestically and internationally as the primary evidential instrument for DUI enforcement and workplace testing programs.

As a long-time leader and advocate for instruments that use fuel cell technology, Intoximeters realizes that regulatory restrictions and customer preference prevent the use of this technology in some circumstances. By adding the best of class infrared technology employed by NPAS in the DMT instrument to the current product offering, Intoximeters will be able to meet the needs of a larger customer base.

“We have long felt that NPAS has the best infrared technology in the industry,” explained Rankine Forrester, CEO of Intoximeters. “The acquisition of the breath alcohol testing business of NPAS allows us to expand our product line by offering both infrared and fuel cell technologies to our customers.”

Intoximeters is a privately held business headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, with a United Kingdom based subsidiary located in Totnes, Devon, UK. Both facilities offer complete instrument service, and are accredited as ISO 17025 calibration laboratories. Founder Dr. Glenn C. Forrester discovered and patented a process for breath alcohol testing in 1937. He established the company in 1945 and it has since been a world leader in offering a complete line of NHTSA and OIML compliant breath alcohol testing instruments. Intoximeters is also highly involved in the 24/7 sobriety program, a law enforcement concept that many U.S. states have begun adopting to reduce recidivism associated with drunk driving.
