1) What calibration equipment can I use with the ASIV?
Either a wet bath or dry gas standard can be used to check accuracy and perform calibrations. Check the QAP requirements of your program as it may dictate the methodology that you use.

2) Why is "MAN" displayed on the ASIV.
"The ASIV cannot validate that the flow sensor is connected. As a result, only Manual Sampling can occur on Testing. Contact Intox Tech Support"

3) The ASIV proceeds through test sequence but returns to temp display before it allows the subject to provide a sample.
The ASIV is not receiving consistent power and is resetting the test sequence; check to make sure that the battery is making solid contact. If this is not the problem change the battery with a new 9 volt alkaline battery.

4) How do I calibrate my ASIV?
Use the More Information link to get to the calibration section.

5) Why is "VOID 14" displayed on the ASIV?
One of two reasons. Either the subject has blown a substance into the instrument that is producing a response that does not appear to be alcohol, or the calibration of the interfering substance detector needs to be reset. The way that you can tell the difference is to blow a known ethahnol calibration gas into the instrument, if you get a "VOID 14" message you know that the interfering substance detector needs to be recalibrated. If you do not get a "VOID 14" message, it is likely that an interfering substance was detected. To calibrate the instrument’s interfering substance detector, you should calibrate the instrument as if you were calibrating the ethanol sensor, this process will reset the system.

6) How do I properly charge the RBTIV’s 12 volt battery?
Intoximeters suggests that you use the trickle charger suppied with the RBTIV and plug the RBTIV in so that it remains charged. The following is information listed on the side of the battery:

Sealed Lead Acid Battery – 12V – 2.3Ah

PLEASE CHARGE YOUR BATTERY PRIOR TO USE AND RECHARGE IT AGAIN AFTER USE

1. Important safety considerations:
o Do not incinerate.
o Do not directly connect the negative and positive terminals.
o Do not use other than the specified battery charger.

2. To prevent deterioration or damage to the battery:
o Do not drop or subject to strong physical shock.
o Do not use to power equipment other than specified.
o Do not use below –10ºC (15ºF) or above +40ºC (105ºF).

3. To ensure long battery life:
o Do not discharge completely—the SLA battery must always be stored in a
charged state.
o The SLA battery does not lend itself to fast charging—typical charge times are 8
to 16 hours.
o The SLA battery can be stored for up to two years but must be kept in a charged
condition.
o A periodic topping charge, also referred to as ‘refreshing charge’, is required to
prevent the open cell voltage from dropping below 2.10V.

7) Why am I seeing an RFI void on my Alco-Sensor® IV?
RFI stands for Radio Frequency Interference. The ASIV was originally designed to detect the presence of RF within the Alco-Sensor® IV’s shielded case and send a signal to the instrument’s processor to abort the test and flag it as an RFI void. Physical testing has since shown the instrument to be insensitive to commonly encountered RF levels. It is not necessary to conduct an accuracy check after an RFI void – simply move away from the source of the RF, or turn off the source and conduct another test.
