SAMPLING REQUIREMENTS

Sample Error Detection
The software monitored diagnostic system ensures proper battery power, proper instrument temperature, proper attachment of the mouthpiece, successful instrument pretest blank, the delivery of a "deep lung" breath specimen and no detectable RFI before automatically taking a sample of breath and reporting a result.

Mouthpiece
The disposable one-way check valve mouthpiece is individually wrapped and can be automatically ejected from the ASIV-XL eliminating the need for operator contact and reducing the possibility of disease transmission.

(Note: Use only mouthpieces manufactured or approved by Intoximeters. Using other mouthpieces may cause damage to the instrument and/or influence the accuracy of test results. Use of unapproved mouthpieces will void the instrument warranty).

THE INSTRUMENT

The Alco-Sensor IV-XL with @Point of Arrest™ System®
is a comprehensive, automated, portable, evidential breath alcohol testing system that combines a hand held computer with a state of the art hand held breath alcohol analyzer. The system provides a simple, accurate and economical method of determining a subject's breath/blood alcohol level and is capable of printing and electronically storing test data and results.

UNIQUE FEATURES

A step by step program makes collection of test information on the hand held computer straightforward. Data entry is simplified by a full keyboard and touch-screen display. Test data entered on the hand held computer is easily transferred to the Alco-Sensor IV-XL through wireless, infrared communication.

The Alco-Sensor IV follows a program driven test procedure which includes quality assurance review and auto disable if the Quality Assurance requirements are not met. Each function is displayed on an LED panel providing the operator with step-by-step instructions for fail-safe testing. The Alco-Sensor IV-XL automatically samples deep lung breath, displays results and stores the test data in memory for upload to a computer and printer through wireless, infrared communication.

ANALYTICAL

Sensor
The electrochemical fuel cell sensor generates an electronic response that is proportional to the Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) in the provided breath sample.

Accuracy & Precision
Approved by the US DOT (NHTSA) for evidential use. The ASIV-XL utilizes an Intoximeters patented analytical routine which provides the highest level of accuracy and precision offered in fuel cell instrumentation.

Specificity
The fuel cell sensor is specific for alcohol. It does not respond to acetone or other substances which are found in human breath after a 15-minute deprivation period.

Linear Range of Sensor
The Alco-Sensor IV-XL accurately detects breath alcohol levels up to .400 BrAC.

Response Time
The instrument responds within 5-10 seconds on negative samples and within 20 - 45 seconds on positive samples.

Sampling System
The patented analytical system permits automatic sampling of deep lung breath. The instrument will record volume of breath and duration of the breath sample provided.

Environmental
Operates over a wide ambient temperature range: -20°C to 40°C.

Quality Assurance and Calibration
Calibration Checks are required after a programmable number of tests have been performed and/or a programmable number of days have been exceeded. Calibration and Accuracy Checks should beperformed with either a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration`s (NHTSA) approved wet bath Simulator or an approved dry gas standard. Calibration and Accuracy Check routines are automated and documented when uploaded to the compatible @Point of Arrest Software program.

Note: The above specifications reflect the operating characteristics for our standard production Alco-Sensor IV @POA. The instrument can be configured to perform under different tolerances upon request.
